Describe what your role, as a peer tutor, is in the classroom. Give specific details and examples of what YOU should do when you walk into the classroom, how you interact with the students, and what you should do while you are in the class.
My role as a peer tutor is to come in class quietly, and be a good role model. Each day I have to ask Ms. Diehl what I can do to help anybody out. When I get my directions for the day I do what I am supposed to do and interact with the students or help Ms. Diehl or Ms. Kripton with something elese. When I am working with the students I know that I have to be very kind, complimentary, and most important be very patient. -Patrick Corrigan
My role as a peer tutor is to come in the class, not yell and make sure I come in quietly. I sit next to a student who I think I can help, and if there is nothing I know to do I can ask Ms.Diehl if she needs anything from me or look on the peer tutor job list. I have learned to be patient when in the class. Some times it takes a While to ask a student to do something but I have learned the count to ten method and wait. When I come in the class I know students look up to me to be a leader so I behave in a way that is good for other kids to follow. Peer tutoring is really fun and I love interacting with students. - Marissa Kolsen
My role of a peer tutor consists of coming into to class quietly and greeting the students also quietly. I either pull up a chair next to a student and help out when i see we are doing a life skills activity, like voting on something, or I ask Ms. Kripton or Ms. Diehl or what i can do to help out in the classroom. I usually organize things, make calender books, one on one with students, or help in a group activity. When I interact with the students, I know they are looking to me as a role model, so I act appropriate for school, but still act as myself. -Nadine Peterson
My role as a peer tutor is to provide help when needed, whether it's to the students(like helping them with their work) or to the teachers(like grading papers or orginizing handouts). While the latter of the two can be a bit of a drag, I know that it is a big help to the teachers and aides, who can use their time for better, more fun things. I prefer to work with the students, but I can't afford to waste my time in class. So long as I'm doing something, I'm helping out in a way, whether it's direct or indirect.
My role as a peer tutor is to be a role model, to be someone who does the right thing, is polite, resceptful, and as understanding as possible. When I come into the classroom I enter quietly and sign in. Then I go see if there is anything that Ms. Diehl or Ms. Kripton need. If there isn't then I go sit with one of the kids. When I am working with one of the kids I know that I need to be as patient as possible, be kind, and of course be respectful. I know that I am there to help them when they need it and to be a friend. When I am sitting with the kids I know that I'm there not to do their work for them, but to point them in the right direction. If I am doing something else in the class for Ms. Diehl or Ms. Kripton I know that I need to be quiet so that they can teach. Most of all I know that I am there to help, be a friend, have some fun, and learn! - Rachel Fore
My role as a peer tutor is to be a role motel and help out in the classroom (helping a student or doing another task a teacher tells me to do). When I walk in I need to be quit and either help a student if it looks like they need help, or ask Ms.Kriton or Ms. Deihl what they need me to do. To interact with students you need to be very patient, kind and complement the students when they do something well/good. I've learned to use the 10 second method and not get really close and all up in their faces. In class I should either work with a student or work on another task a teacher wants me to do. I shouldn't read a book, do my homework, or waste my time or anyone else's time. :)Hannah Gorin
My role as a peer tutor is to be a good role model for the kids. I need to enter the room quietly and say hi to all the students quietly also. I should get in and help out a student, I should not read a book, do homework, or anything distracting. If no students need help I should ask Ms. Kriton or Ms. Deihl if they have anything for me to do. when I'm working with a student I should complement them if they do something good, and if they do something I don't like or something they shouldn't be doing I should tell one of the teachers in the room. if i ask a student to get up I need to say it nicely and wait ten seconds if they dont do it by then i can ask again. -Kennedy Fray
